Landscape (Grayscale)

In this digital art experiment, I concentrate on using only black & white to illustrate a fantasy/natural landscape.

This image shows stages of progress. I used only 2 types of brushes: a basic round brush with hard edges, and a rough brush, with scattering. The smudge tool was used frequently to smooth out edges, mostly on the rock surfaces, the water, and the clouds.

This project took several hours to complete. I really like this grayscale approach, because it forces you to focus more on the light/contrast/texture, vs. color, to achieve realism. I think its probably a good skill-builder exercise. I hope to do a few more drawings to go along with this. ;)
